Journal of Smart Energy Systems and Sustainable Technologies

Tye Ching Thian

Dr. Tye is an Associate Professor at the School of Chemical Engineering, Universiti Sains
Malaysia. She received her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from The University of British
Columbia, Canada in 2006. Her research expertise centers on chemical reaction
engineering and catalysis, with particular emphasis on advancing catalytic performance,
boosting system efficiency, and refining product quality across upgrading and conversion
processes in oil processing. In recent years, her work has increasingly focused on the
transformation of renewable resources—including vegetable/plant oils and waste
cooking oils—into sustainable biofuels and bio-based chemical feedstocks. Through this
research, she aims to contribute to cleaner energy alternatives and the development of
environmentally conscious chemical processes.
